The
Phoenix FanJet compares very well. Until the recent development of
low-thrust, high-bypass fanjet engines, costs were higher. Now however,
all new airliners and business jets are equipped with turbofans because
of their low maintenance costs, fuel efficiency and quiet operation.
Williams-Rolls has pioneered development of an engine that extends
those benefits to the General Aviation field. As a result, the Direct
Operating Costs of a Phoenix FanJet are comparable to those of a high-performance
piston single or twin, at about US$200/hour. And between 48 and 55
per cent of those costs are for fuel. Despite the similar costs, though,
there's a huge increase in performance and reliability over the other
aircraft. |
